.....as he was put the coffee on, jon wondered whether he was drinking too much of the stuff.  'what the hell' he thought, 'it's the least of my vices anyway' and laughed softly to himself.

suddenly, he heard a howl from the next room and turned just in time to see monk come flying through the door and hurtle through the open window as if his tail were on fire. jon ran to the window and watch his cat streak down the alley with no signs of slowing down.

'what the hell's got into him?' he sighed, and soon found out as he turned back to the room and two dried out human hands grabbed him around the throat.

he struggled furiously, but the grip from the hands was stronger than a human grip.  his eyes bulged as he desaprately and uselessly tried to draw breath.  the hands, if anything, seemed to tighten their grip and jon fell to the floor as the room started to go black.

he knew he was going to die.  some people will tell you that your life flashes before your eyes.  jon only had one thought in his mind - the bridge from 'have you met miss jones'.  he'd never nailed it on a gig.  i mean it was tricky, but he'd nailed harder stuff in his time.  for some reason, that bridge had become a bit of a nemesis for him.  he'd never nailed it....and now he never would.

suddenly, oxygen flooded into his lungs and certain death gave way to glorious, wonderful life.  he didn't know how long he lay on the floor sobbing gentle tears of gratitude, but when he could finally open his eyes there was a large man reaching up with both hands to pull down the window.  his other hand, he offered to jon;

"looks like i was just in time mr moses." he said as he pulled jon to his feet.  "my name is carboni....luciano antonio...."

"....enrico valentino carboni." finished jon "your friends call you ‘cool hand’ luke.”

the man looked surprised for a moment until a knowing smile spread across his face.

"she said you might have the gift, but we didn't think it would have shown itself so soon."

he walked back to the window and clasped his hands behind his back and rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

"still it could come in useful...but first we've got to get those hands back"
