it is first solo and then adds bass and drums. all of the melodic/harmonic techniques/devices i used that i thought might be of interest, or need an explanation, i have 'marked' or labelled. these are best viewed in sonar or any version of cakewalk. they will appear in some other midi players/sequencers, but are not locked to the notes that are marked as they are in sonar/cakewalk where you can just click on a label/description and the file jumps straight to there showing what is happening in notated form, or on a piano keyboard and playing it at the same time. this is great for showing stuff to students, because they can loop the phrase, slow it down, transpose it or whatever.
i have added a printout in pdf format as a separate file for those who don't have sonar or cakewalk. there is a hrs/mins/seconds time on the left and also a measure/beat/tick indication - but for the rubato solo bit, this won't make much sense. it might be a bit tedious figuring what part is being marked! anyway, someone might find it interesting!

Volume 1 of this educational jazz piano book contains 15 jazz piano exercises, tricks, and other interesting jazz piano techniques, voicings, grooves, and ideas Scot Ranney enjoys playing.

Volume 2 has 14 jazz piano exercises and tricks of the trade, and quite a bit of it is Calypso jazz piano related material, including some Monty Alexander and Michel Camilo style grooves. Jazz piano education is through the ears, but books like this can help.
Volume 3 contains 12 jazz piano exercises and explorations by the acclaimed jazz piano educator, pianist, author, and recording artist Tim Richards.
Tim wrote the well known "Exploring Jazz Piano" and "Improvising Blues Piano" books and has several others to his name.
Volume 4 is by Jeff Brent, a jazz pianist, composer, teacher, and author of "Modalogy" and other acclaimed jazz theory and education books. In this book Jeff shares detailed analysis of transcriptions of live performances. He covers everything from the shape of the songs to the tricks and licks he uses in improvised lines to the ideas behind his lush chord voicings.
