the files that feature piano only are great and really useful.
i was wondering if anyone could help me with the files such as "how to play bossanova" which are meant to play back drums. on my pc, the drum parts get played by my piano - creating an unholy cacophony. i have tried setting my default midi player to an alternative sound card but still - all piano.
i can't see any of the usual midi set up options in finale, and it's not really mentioned in the help.

if you have a good sound card... it sounds great.
if your midi device is a simple piano, drums signal comes into it creating an unholy cacophony as you say.
for hearing it right you must have a midi device that receives all midi channels. remember drums come always in midi channel 10.
may be your instrument is receiving only channel 1... put it receiving omni-channel. i'm sending piano in channel 1.
please explore in midi menu in your finale, midi setup, and by changing different outputs positions may be you fix your bug.
in each staff we have 4 layers in finale, and in each layer i play different instruments in different midi channels. so solo piano examples must sound great in a simple midi piano, but when other instruments appear it must be ugly, drums sounding in piano notes.
please hear to wave in "learning bossa"... there is a virtual sax...
you hear a sax in melody and a rhythm section that you can not see in staff... a great resort here is to hide a staff or some layers.

Volume 1 of this educational jazz piano book contains 15 jazz piano exercises, tricks, and other interesting jazz piano techniques, voicings, grooves, and ideas Scot Ranney enjoys playing.

Volume 2 has 14 jazz piano exercises and tricks of the trade, and quite a bit of it is Calypso jazz piano related material, including some Monty Alexander and Michel Camilo style grooves. Jazz piano education is through the ears, but books like this can help.
Volume 3 contains 12 jazz piano exercises and explorations by the acclaimed jazz piano educator, pianist, author, and recording artist Tim Richards.
Tim wrote the well known "Exploring Jazz Piano" and "Improvising Blues Piano" books and has several others to his name.
Volume 4 is by Jeff Brent, a jazz pianist, composer, teacher, and author of "Modalogy" and other acclaimed jazz theory and education books. In this book Jeff shares detailed analysis of transcriptions of live performances. He covers everything from the shape of the songs to the tricks and licks he uses in improvised lines to the ideas behind his lush chord voicings.
