has anyone any good suggestions for some good solos to transcribe? i dont want to transcribe jarrett solos that last for eight minutes, but some shorter things like rebello does on sting albums...

geroge shearing "soon it's gonna rain"  from an album called "recorded in performance 1979" with brian torff - very cool and fairly easy to transcribe
get the miles recording, "kind of blue", and transcribe anything that wynton kelley did.

i really like horace silver's solo on "song for my father" on the album by the same name. if this is your first transcription, that's a good choice since it is not very fast compared to a lot of stuff out there. and it just sounds oh-so-cool.

this was my first transcription and i never get bored of playing it.
i am not looking for just easy solos. i have transcribed some jarret, jacky terrasson, peter martin and brad mehldau before. but i have realized that if the players just have a few bars to solo over, the more music they but into those bars. and  that is what i want to learn more about...
a wise friend said to me once "everything's easy once you learn how to do it"

so the question should not be whether a solo is easy or not, but whether it is good or not:)
that certainly is wise. of course the reason i recommend silver's solo is that it is really good and also simple. but ole is clearly quite experienced, he is probably looking for more complex stuff. fire away guys !
if it's the pre-bebop fundamentals you like, go for a few of lester young's solos from his days with count basie before the war.  they are usually short (two 32-bar choruses or less), but his phrasing impacted everyone who came after him.  the ken burns jazz cd has a good handful of these.  i'm especially fond of 'lester leaps in', 'every tub', and 'honeysuckle rose'.

charlie christian is another good bet.  like lester young, he has short solos, but he makes the most of it.   try 'rose room' and 'ive found a new baby'.
i thnik i am looking for some more modern stuff...but thanks for all the suggestions.:)
hmmm...if you haven't heard em, you ought to check em out anyway, you might be surprised:)
