do you have any suggestions of some good theory books? some that deals with harmony og chords. i have read mark levins book, but i am looking for something else...
There are no comments, leave a comment.
the new barry harris dvd/book has a very comprehensive harmony section.  the music is all notated in the 165 page book. i bought it through www.jazzworkshops.com.  there are some interesting articles on harmony up on that site as well.
maybe you can find everything you need online:

a list of links to websites devoted to music theory.
what are "harmony og" chords?
og = and
i guess i wrote a norwegian word...sorry...
hi guys:
can anyone recommend a piano method with a lot of classical music organized from easy to hard? i have discovered that  i really want to learn more classical because it loosens my fingers and improves my reading greatly. thanks !
bach...
start with first lessons
then the two part inventions
then the three part inventions
then the well tempered clavier.
if you learn all that well, not only will you accomplish your goals
but you really will not have to learn anything else as long as you live.
slight overstatement don't you think mike? ;)

agreed that bach is at the very top of all-time greats, but unless you have the mind of one of the greats of the classical/romantic period you will be missing out on seeing the development of  harmony and its usage since bach, recommendations of beethoven and chopin are but a few, but look at some brahms ballades and intermezzi for some amazing unique usage of harmony.
i've heard that there is no single book or method and after seeing your comments i will stop looking for such a method. the path recommended by my teacher was bach indeed like you say, thank you guys!
ps: can anyone recommend me which basics from choping and others to play?
the best jazz theory book (actually a course) you can get, in my opinion, is "the jazz language" by dan haerle.
lol mike is right although that takes a long time itw worth it in the end i suppose

for bridging the gap i also suggest debussy. music is not as hard as bach

and his harmonies, scale usages, and other techniques translate into jazz very well.

good luck
hej ole, proev at kigge paa metaphors for the musician ellers har bill dobbbins ogsaa skrevet en masse gode boeger om teori.
is it really important to know all of your basic and advanced theory before learning jazz?
yes!
no!
the more you know before you start the easier it will be, dont skip the hard work, or you'll never progress, it can only get easier. the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.

jv'
art tatum said that if things get harder as you learn, then you need to give it up.
hey.. i have been doing bach from ana magdalenas bach book  and my left hand has improved  in just a couple of weeks. also my rithym sight reading has improved much faster than doing just jazz lead sheets.
anyone knows other good references to  printed books of the bach basics before doing well tempered clavier?

thanks you all.
