i am looking for some short non - virtouse solos (maybe one or two choruses) to transcribe. it facinates me with those pianist who can use just the right tones and the right timing to make a lot of music.  it can be jazz, or soul/fusion  stuff...or anything as long as it is good..and it has a modern sound. i am not looking for something like count basie solos...:)

maybe some diana krall stuff?  the ones where she accompanies herself. her solos are not long at all, fairly simple, and very tasty.

forgot to mention elaine elias. same thing- on stuff that she plays piano and sings, her solos are quite short but also very tasty.  you might be able to find some old harry connick jr. stuff as well.  if you find the people who are accompanying themselves, at least you know the solos will be short.

hej ole,
if i were you i would go directly to the source !!

i will get some krall and connick stuff and check it out.thanks for the help.  but what ii really had in mind was some more modern things like calderazzo /esbjörn svensson?
nice short solo by larry golding on madeleine peyroux's careless love album.  the track is dance me to the end of love.  a tasty 16 measures.
i would like to add to the allready excellent sugestions: try some of the piano solos that the great composer antonio carlos jobim played. they are very easy- i don't think he even used his left hand. nothing fast or fancy, but very lyrical and  in the pocket. try "wave" from the "wave" album or "triste" ( i have that one on a bossa nova cd with various artists)
check out nat king coles cd "anatomy of a jam session". there are some cool solos that shouldn't be too difficult to transcribe.
hi there,

check out kenny kirkland's wonderful latin solo on stings "la belle dame sans regrets"(mercury falling). easy to transcribe and really tasty, great timing and beautiful choice of target tones. kenny was certainly one of the most underrated pianists out there...
thanks for reminding me about that one nikos. it is a great solo. i have transcribed some part of it before, but i think i have to do the whole thing all over again. it is beautiful....
yeah, i should have mentioned nat king cole. he was the master of the short tasty solo.

horace silver's solos are usually pretty easy to transcribe.  song for my father is a good place to start.
if you enjoy bossa nova, you might check out eliane elias's last album "dreamer", some nice stuffs to take out (nice piano solo in her tangerine version), easy distinguishable piano part.
