you're listening to hank!  sweet! this'll be my project this evening.  can you give me a specific location in the song?
i don't know what he is playing on that particular recording, but the last time i saw him in a club he was playing "big left hand chords" on every tune.

alernating between these left hand voicings:

10
7
1

7
3
1
yeah, he does that a lot
dalty52: i'm referring to the first two choruses. so basically the chords behind the originial melody.
jazz+: you mean for example:

cmin7: eb bb c
f7: eb a f

or am i getting this wrong
the f7 chord is a bit too stretched out to play comfortably
well, at the beginning, he plays bb, e, ab moving down to a, eb, g.  then, on the bb chord he does a line cliche moving from a, to ab, to g.  there's a d held over that line cliche.  then, on a-7(b5), he makes it a dominant and plays g, c#, f then moving to f#, c, eb.  after that, i dunno......i only listened to it for a couple seconds last night as i moved on and worked on some chick stuff i've been doing.  i'll listen some more this afternoon.

ah, just checked out that f7.............he's definitely playing r, b7, 3 on it, as jazz said, but there's also a #11 in there.  thus, the voicing is f, b, eb, a.  then, in the rh, it sounds like something like eb, a, f.
there might be a b in the rh, as well..............it's hard to tell from the sustain.
thanks dalty52, although i think your the a-7(b5) voicing is wrong
do you know some of the voicings on the b secton?
"thanks dalty52, although i think your the a-7(b5) voicing is wrong"

i'll check it again when i get home, although i played everything along with it this morning and it sounded right.  i'll listen to some of the b section stuff, as well.
dalty52: have you found out some things ?
sorry, i got sidetracked by chick.  stand by.
cats,

i've seen postings from jaledin talking about having transcribed one of the late frank hewitt's solos.  as frank's producer and friend, i'm very interested in any transcriptions that people have done of his work.  i'd love it if i could use that as an educational resource and pair it up with the recording it came from.  could someone help give him a heads up (if he doesn't see this note himself)?  i'll check back here, or if one needs to, one can reach me at luke/smallsrecordscom.

many thanks!  luke kaven
