scot,

it's adobe premier. i'm not going to be doing the editing myself though, so i won't be able to give you any pointers.

suffice it to say that this is the software that the professional tv editor/director that i'm friends with uses all the time at work.

the two comedy bits that i gave all of you a link to were edited with premier. you'll notice that at the end of the sketch "nothing" that they did a freeze frame while the audience continued to applaud, and they  both had titles beginning and end. the zooms in/out were not done live, those were done also in premier.

whacky,

there are certain to be comedy clubs in your neck of the woods that have open mic nights. these tend to be the equivalent of karaoke without music. most of the so-called "comedians" are totally lame, and rarely warrant the few minutes they're given onstage.

so i'm sure you won't have a problem getting stage time (until you burn all your bridges like  me <g>).

in general, a five minute set is all you're given. and if you can't keep 'em laughing (or get them laughing) the mc will give you the boot long before your time is up.

even the feautred acts only get ten minutes  of stage time. and headliners generally get a maximum of 30 mins.

so start out with a couple of five minute sets. i find the best way to work it is to keep things "modular", ie have several one minute to two minute bits at your disposal that rock and mix and match them.

oh, and don't expect to make any money at it.

ps: "nothing" is an actual song that i wrote, but i don't use the lyrics in my skit.

nothing

nothing makes me feel the way that you do
nothing nothing
nothing could ever stop me loving you
because without i'd be nothing

that fling really meant nothing
nothing nothing
i thought you'd know nothing
is there nothing i can say?

without you
i'm nothing

nothing
