its a shame. i havent heard lots of his work, but his accoustic stuff seemed different from many of those of his time and ours.

anyone know of any accoustic albums? i dont really like synths too much.

that's really sad news. he's one of the main reasons i like synthesizers and electronic jazz. i finally got to see him and his band 2 years ago. it just so happens i'm even in the middle of writing a composition in honor of him. i didn't figure it would be a requiem, though.

check him out with cannonball adderly in the 60's. that's where he started out in this country.

session that started the jazz-fusion movement.

it was joe who made a brash declaration that electric instruments (ie. synths, electric pianos, effect processors, etc.) were a legimate means to play jazz. if the rock world could successfully use synths so could jazz.

zaniwul, he broke new ground since the day he started. his sounds created an entire genre. they are dropping like flies.

if you younger folks are passing on seeing the great ones play live, don't pass on it any longer. see every festival you can, go to as many shows as you can.

you want to learn how to play? being in the same space as the masters is the best way of all.

jz had the piano chair in the cannonball adderley band from c. 1962-66. the best albums that feature him are:

ca 6tet live in new york (village vanguard) - riverside 1962.
contains jz's tune 'scotch & water'...

mercy mercy mercy - capital, 1966.
title track by jz.

he swung as hard as bobby timmons and wynton kelly!!!
