there's been a lot of mention over here at ljp of phil degregs' books and website(https://www.phildegreg.com/ed.html)...i was just checking it out and would suggest to anyone wanting to get started/develop their overall understanding of the factors involved in playing that they take a look at it.......right away he deals with setting up a practice routine (which has been a recent thread topic here),then he has a lot of examples of things that you can work with before deciding on which books to buy,to get a sense of things and just whats' involved, like i've been suggesting in other posts where people are wondering how to get into things..........this is one of the better sites to use to figure out what your approach will be based on and where to go from there.......

i went the jamey abersold jazz camp in 2004, and have follwed his practice advise ever since. his masterclass was by far the best in the camp and he totally changed my practice routine. his routine is very complete and you could spend as little as an hour a day or as much 16 hours a day on it.
another good resource to be aware of is the stuff they have every month in keyboard magazine.........usually its' a transcription/excerpt/style analysis of an influential player along with some ideas on how to work on the aspects of their style...if you go to their site online and click on "how to.." they list all the recent past issues's subjects..this months'is kenny barron..they have some articles by andy laverne on his concept.............
showing how to work on comping with the lh in what they call "punches"(voicings used percussively w/rhythmic accents)under the same rh line.....for people whose "self-study" practice repertoire consists of the stuff here at ljp along with other online sources, this is a useful addition.........
also recommended is piano today, check it out.  great solo jazz piano arrangements with accompanying essays and articles.  the magazine comes out quarterly and also has a classical section.
