Old message # 42421

an old friend had his rhodes "dynomyzed" back in the early 80s. i think it cost him like $1500. we laid his and mind side by side and took them both apart to try to figure out what the hell those guys did to make his sound like that - we never figured it out. rumor has it, he later sold that one for $50. i tried chasing it down several months ago. it apparently went through 3 owners and is now back with him. i don't have the balls to ask him if he wants to sell it - heh heh

after playing this latest incarnation solo, i have found that it is not as "mint" as i thought. i'm starting to think a nice s90 or rd700 would still be a better option. although the guy who owns this one was playing a motif (rack) that night. we a-b'd the rhodes sounds with the real rhodes and there was no comparison. kinda like comparing a vk to a real hammond - aint nuthin lik the real thing baby
