anyone know if it's possible/easy to split the tracks on an aebersold play-a-long on itunes?

do they have drm?

if so, i know there's a piece of software out there that removes drm from itunes.

if they are drm free mp3 files, then you can plug them to audacity and remove one channel. if you get something like transcribe!, you can do that really easy by pressing the "left button". you can also slow down and transpose... that won't work on drm music.

last solution is to get yourself a y cable. one channel in gets merged into both channels out.
sounds so complicated. i really just want to turn the volume down on one channel so that i can only hear the rhythm accompaniment and not the comping.

thanks knotty and jazz+! does that y cable work on a mac?
ya, it's a standard cable. it's very simple, on one end, it only connects to one of the stereo channel, so it's a mono jack. it then splits it so the sound comes out on the 2 channels out, as if it was stereo. (but of course, it isn't).

anyway ...

your mac probably has a mini jack out.
what are you plugging the mac into? (how are you listening to the tracks).
unless you're using the built-in speakers, you'll find a way.
if you're playing on a computer, shouldn't your media player/sound volume driver have a l/r setting that you can pan all the way over so you can just listen to one channel?  then you wouldn't have to worry about cabling or anything like that.
sorry to state the obvious - but ya never know...

if you're using headphones, only use one ear
these work if you want to listen with one ear ... the solution of the y cable will get sound from one channel in both ears. to me, there's no way i'd listen with one ear for more than a few minutes :)
