i once made $500 plus expences (overnight top notch bed and breakfast... food drinks.. transporation)  just to bring my digital piano and set it up for another piano player to play on nantucket island (the piano player was jimmy webb the guy who wrote "up up and away in my beautiful balloon" amd other such big hits) at a private party...  imagine one of the best paying gigs of my life and i did not have to play...lol.  well except i played for jimmy a little as a sound check.  it was interesting too because the next day jimmy was off to another island a few miles away to work with carly simon on her then upcoming cd  "film noir".
