at the moment im practising drop 2 voicings on minor7 chords, and to do them in a block chord style with for instance:

dm7, edim ,dm7, edim....  

i found that thinking visually when i move to next chord seems to be a useful method to learn these chords.
i play, lift my hands *break* "think about what the next chord looks like" and then play it.  this seems to be a good method to avoid only getting the chords in the muscle-memory. my experience is that practising like this makes the chords settle much faster.  
to take whis even further i have tried to imagine how the chords look in the scores.

anyone have similar experiences?

i have always visualized chords as i play, mostly unconsciously.
i imagine chords kind of in shapes, or broken lines corresponding to the black/white key configuration.

for example a c7 is ___/ and a cm7 is /\/ etc.
the method i am being taught to learn voicings is to play it block style, let it ring, look at the hands, close my eyes, say the chord name.  
move through the progression that way. it's easy to spend 5 minutes playing through a 2-5-1 just once like that.
keep on doing all that because as time goes on, thoughts of notes and how to voice chords will start to go away and be replaced with the sounds and keys of chords.  i've had some amazing moments in the last year where i'm harmonizing a melodic line and putting in chords that i've never thought of before, but that sounded great (lots of alternate bass notes and including the root inside the chord, really really nice sounds- almost classical sometimes)
