i'm a big hiromi fan, but this one i no likee.

are you serious? i like it better than any other work she has done.
green tea farm is a real nice solo piece. that new agey groove thing doesn't hold my attention for long, too much intensity for too long with no swing for me. when keith does it i can listen forever, the intensity is much more controlled and balanced.

she is completely phenomenal as a pianist, the next god emissary for the art form for sure, what a delightful shape this one came in!
i don't think it's new age music, it does have elements of minimalism a la steve reich.
i don't ever recall any new age music grooves in 7/8 at tempo 280
what is "new age" anway?  (or as some call it, "newage" :)i've heard quite a few random free form improvs with odd time signatures and tempi.  in fact i find myself doing it from time to time.  that doesn't make it good or bad, it just "is"

it's interesting that posts like this stir up so much debate, as if for some reason we should  somehow come to a consensus on what is "good" or not.

jazz+ likes it, dave frank does not.  for what it's worth, i'm okay with both opinions - but i'll keep my own to myself since it has already been expressed in this thread:)
c'mon, whackman, give it up.
:)
heh heh:)  i will say this reminds me of an interview i once saw or read somewhere with horowitz in which he was asked if he plays all the beethoven sonatas.  his answer was something like: "no.  they're not all good  you know"
good one, like the famous review of a wagner opera,"wagner's music is alot better than it sounds".

i have never heard anything like this from jim brickman, george winston, suzanne ciani, enya, john tesh or yani...

wow, impressive wit there.
glad you enjoyed it, i've been laffing about it all night.
i have been away for a while... sorry i missed this thread while it wwas forming.... lol...:)  keep up the good work guys,  don't let the kids suspect we actually work for a living.
as for the hiromi piece... i would tweak it a bit... put it in 4/4 and give it a smokin walkin bass line.  other than that i think it has real potential.
