the uk aebersold course was really really useful and enjoyable.  it was my one and only ever jazz course, tho' so i've nothing to compare it with. the colleague that i went to the course with has been to many of these such courses in the uk and  was also very impressed with the detail to be learned there.  i was selected (auditioned by dan haerle) for the second from bottom group in the combo classes and following the theory test i was selected for the second from top level for  theory - this, to me, seemed very apt for my skill levels in those areas. every morning 9 to 10.30 we had theory drummed into our heads courtesy of mike tracy (excellent educator) and we grabbed coffee with 'brain ache'. this was followed by combo classes (these were not quite so successful this year due to the group make-up apparently) but these did prove to be very useful in a number of ways for me personally.  the material covered in the master classes tied in with the combo class and was useful for voicing selection and other things.  i'd say, overall that i now understand a lot more and have things to work on (that i had planned in any case) for a year or two and that the course was worth every £  spent on it. i and my colleague would recommend it.

my new laptop is not up and running but i need time to get to know it, especially the stuff on the audio drive.

i've sold my house and moved in with my son while my new apartment is being finished.  it shouldn't be too long now before i'm settled again and hopefuly life (as i like it) can get back to normal. my son has a small house with no room for a piano or music station (my mo is in store :( for now.  however, my son is a star wars galaxy fan and so has adsl.  one can't have everything and at least i have a roof over my head for the next week or two and i can look forward to a winter of playing and learning more jazz.  thanks for the interest.  kai
