inspired by gowiththeflow, i have tried to upload some music from my quartet. what do you think of it? it is from a live concert from my music academy...

"train dance" is performed by my quartet and the two other song is by my  
fusion/pop/jazz band...
i just enjoyed listening to it (the first tune on the list). it was a nice performance! when you enjoy something and get lost in the music, you forget about "criticizing". it was great!
ole - well that's intersting.  i very much liked train dance and only listened briefly to the other two.  i thoroughly enjoyed all three and would listen to either band again. i thought it was well produced.  :-)

.  then when this happens, you keep on doing it!  keep on building it up.  build it up until it flows over the edge of the glass, until you've balanced so much that it's going to crash down on it's own.

then, and only then, you come out of your build up and transition to a new feel, or the original feel, or whatever.  i would have enjoyed your build up to be twice as long, twice as chaotic, and would really enjoy hearing the rhythm section (drums/bass at least) changing the feel once or twice so that not only are you building up, but the momentum is getting some real energy.  

in that same section the guitar could have also changed what it was doing to help the build up, added some rhythm.

ok, that's just my opinion. the song was very nice, recordable even, i'm just trying to find an area i think could be improved.

here's an example of what i'm talking about, something that i recorded live once about five years ago.  it's a loose arrangement, one that we had only rehearsed once.  after the bass and drums solos we start building it up and it takes a long time to peak, but if feels right when it happens, doesn't feel rushed or anything:

(side note- i thought my own playing in this tune, and in the rest of the recording, was too busy, not relaxed enough)

three equals one: very nice, and the instrumental section is great. you guys did a great job building up that one, so obviously you know what i'm talking about in the simple girl song, however i'll leave my comments there for other people.

all in all, i like your music.  i guess my main impression of an area to improve is to widen your margins... um, start softer, get louder.  you guys already showed a nice flair for dynamics, but you can do more with it to make music that is already good even better.

i would really like you guys to give me some more evaluation of my playing. don`t be afraid to hurt my feelings, if you have something to comment that i could improve and work on with my playing...:)
wow scot, i really did think you were a stiff. i know that to be an impossibility after listening to what's in your pocket
i would change something in the simple girl song. the ascending chords with bass and vocals sound harmonicly monotonous and weak to me. the problem is not the ascending bass motiff, it's something in the rhodes voicings. they are dull voicings. try starting with parallel 5ths and add one or two notes to see what could sound better.
nice solo on "on my way home", although it ends rather suddenly without any flourish, but that's ok.  sounds like something from carla bley live in nyc.

the intro sounds like a different key than the tune, i notice the singer sounds odd with the bass player, note choice is unusual...
again i think the whole note piano voicings could be chosen more carfully, they sound uninteresting. i like the triplet arpeggio chords. the breakdown drops the energy too much, the idea of the song takes a turn that loses me...water drops and tablas, weather report influence?....what happened? i guess it's a democracy and some band members think that's the coolest part. it's a relief when the piano tiptoes back in :)i think that's where the breakdown could have started and then go to a shorter tabla solo with the piano. it was to empty breaking down just to tablas.
breakdown was way to long, i like the way it builds back up, i almost turned it off during the breakdown.... oh back to those chords that could be richer. who makes up those vocal interval melodies? i don't care for those wide interval vocal melodies. they don't sound very melodic with the angular leaps, they sound tedious t me.
ok, i have nit picked enough... let me know if you want more criticism.
