i wondered if anyone could recommend contemporary recordings of the ol' classic, rc? i'm aware of a great deal of the early / mid bop stuff, but  stuff from the late 60s onwards would be great, and it doesn't have to be pianist's stuff as i'm after approaches to the tune as much as notes.

i asked this question over at allaboutjazz - https://forums.allaboutjazz.com/showthread.php?t=15952 - and had some useful replies, suggestions from which i am waiting to get from amazon :) but would love to have some more choices. i don't think i'm aware of anything herbie has recorded over this?

cheers,

i think brad mehldau´s skippy, from "anything goes" is played over the rythm changes... and on one of his earliest albums, he plays a version of anthropology...amazing rythmic playing on the first choruses, then he goes into crazy bebop stuff...
you should also check out keith jarrett...he plays a lot of rythm changes.... and i seem to recall that calderazzo has a tune on his recordings with the rc...but i am not sure which of them...i will try to find it out...:)
ole - i'd love to know that calderazzo recording, i'd be v. grateful if you could check it out! i'll investigate the brad m stuff you mention, thanks.
hiya, sorry to butt in, but i think the calderazzo rc number is called suspone. i thought it was on his blue note album in the door but on checking i see i'm mistaken... maybe on a michael brecker album  - it was around the time he was in his band...
dr jazz - are you thinking of the disc "don't try this at home" by brecker? the track 'suspone' came up on the other forum - i've got it on order :)
