i had the good fortune to be sitting first row last night at chick's solo concert at the 92nd st. y in nyc. truly a great night with a master. he's incredibly loose on stage - a trait i've noticed with all the greats - kibbutzing with the audience, joking, at one point taking out a cell phone to "call his agent"..the breath of his mastery is tremendous, great lines all night long in straight-eighth  feel, everything under the sun happening in the lh, beautiful balanced sound, incredible chord voicings, tons of dissonance everywhere. the highlight for me was a real nice reading of a scarlotti sonata, a verbatim scriabin piece followed by a beautiful related improv, and many of his superb children's songs.

what a great piano evening from a sweet man, chick is a gift from the gods:)
